Kaokoland Restaurant was built on a simple premise: the most remote places deserve the best food. Opuwo sits at the gateway to one of Africa's last great wilderness areas, and the travellers, overland crews, aid workers and Himba community members who pass through here needed somewhere to sit down and eat a proper, nourishing meal.
We cook Namibian food. Game meat, fresh vegetables sourced locally where possible, traditional Oshiwambo and Herero recipes alongside the kind of simple, generous plates that fuel a long day in the Kaokoveld. Nothing pretentious, nothing rushed, just good food made with care in an extraordinary place.
Oryx, kudu and other local game, prepared traditionally
Sourced from the region wherever possible, seasonally adjusted
A gathering place for everyone in Opuwo, from locals to overlanders
In the centre of Opuwo. If you're heading into or out of the Kaokoveld, stop here first.
